Johan Snel (1961) studied Early Modern History at the Amsterdam Vrije Universiteit (founded by Kuyper in 1880). He worked in the Dutch Parliament and became a senior lecturer in Journalism at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (Ede Christian University of Applied Sciences) in 1995. He wrote books on Free Speech and on Journalism. Recently he published ‘De Zeven Levens van Abraham Kuyper’ (2020; The Seven Lives of Abraham Kuyper), a portrayal of the man full of new biographical insights (which went through four editions and was shortlisted for the Boerhaave Biography Prize).
