A great many Christians in America have had to deal with an uncomfortable truth the recent weeks: whether you actively engage or not in politics, it will eventually come for YOU.
America is once again in a “Valley Forge” moment.
We are weakened by a foreign virus and resulting deaths. Our way of life disrupted by (sometimes overly-harsh) quarantine measures. Our businesses and institutions shut down. Loss of jobs. Violence and burning in major cities. Political division and election anxiety. Rapid erosion of traditional and American values. All the while there is once again a red-clad enemy nation which seeks to displace us. Shall we sit out these circumstances passively and just wait for deliverance?
One of the early flags of the American Revolution was a symbol of the pine tree with the motto “An Appeal to Heaven” which was used on naval vessels and battle lines. It was powerful symbol of purpose unified with action.
America’s contemporary solution is two-fold; it is a fight in both the spiritual and natural realms. The spiritual solution is eternal principle, while the natural solution is based on circumstances. Time is short, and there are practical realizations that we must come to in order to forge ahead.
The will of God is ultimate; appeal to Heaven
Pray that we understand it. Pray that we have wisdom to discern the right courses of action. Cast out negativity and doomsaying. If there is a revival to happen in the country, let us pray together to find out how we can be a part of it.
Government is NOT our friend
The Founders of this country assumed as axiom that government is a necessary evil because of the sinful nature of man. Also, that power must be properly diffused as to prevent abuse for the same reason. Government is staffed by fallible man and prone to the same abuses as any hierarchy; it must therefore always be in check. Eternal vigilance. Educate yourself and and vote for people who will preserve your rights, and keep government power in check.
“Separation of church and state” is weak; reject it
There is perhaps no other phrase that is more used against Christians than this… but, it is not found in any official government document. Yet, as a mere phrase in a letter of Thomas Jefferson, it is used primarily by courts to “box us in” to our private religious sphere. The First Amendment states that no Federal law can be made to establish an official religion, but this has no bearing on the de facto religion of the populace. President John Adams stated that “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” There are no inalienable rights from our Creator, without a Creator.
Corporations are NOT your friend
We are currently witnessing en masse the suppression of free speech, removal of “unfavorable” American history, and the commercialization of causes that are antithetical to American institutions. In a Republic based on the rule of law (not man), reform should always come in the form of legislation, not violence or profit. The business of America is business; therefore, let us exercise discretion in our support of it, and that means sacrifice. That means saving money, being productive, supporting local business, networking in your community, buying American, and boycotting products from hostile nations. Most of all, it means starving the beasts that consider you to be a “number” and nothing more; the beasts that get rich off of American free enterprise, and turn to rail against it; the beasts whose only masters are the highest bidders.
Anti-American (and anti-Christian) forces take advantage of our decency
This is the toughest tightrope to walk. Americans and Christians largely keep to themselves in their own lives, until a certain line is crossed. Good-natured Americans will afford “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind”. Christians will maintain decency in all regards in order to not hurt the gospel message. Unfortunately, foreign powers, corporate entities, and political agents take full advantage of this stance. The line has been crossed. We need to find our backbone once again to stand up and speak up to defend our country and ourselves when it is necessary. NO FEAR must be shown, and not ONE INCH given to forces that would hurt or subvert us. Yes, we risk ourselves in resisting those who would make us bow to them. In that, we forcefully declare, TO HELL with their standards. We bow to NO ONE except God Almighty.
A contemporary lyric reading of the Battle Hymn of the Republic summarizes the perfect synergy in which our spiritual cause is united with a political one:
“In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me.
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free!
While God is marching on!”
Coming off the 4th of July weekend, let us UNITE again in the cause for independence. Join to renew our commitment to God, family, and friends, for these are the bulwark of the nation. We are the Union, and we march only to Christ and His rule in our lives.

I find this “open letter” quite scary. It perpetuates the false idea that the United States was founded as a Christian nation. It maintains the destructive and conspiratorial revolutionary idea that government is an evil force in a society. It parrots the conspiracy theories that corporations are an atheistic and immoral force in society. It comes too close to suggesting that only Christians have rights. It is way too comfortable with the economic status quo that believes big business (ie. unfettered capitalism) is an inalienable right and force for social good. By referring to the pandemic as a consequence of… Read more »
Hello, Mike. I will clarify based on your comments: – There is nothing “destructive or conspiratorial” about the idea of government as a necessary evil. It is definitely a “revolutionary” idea. Government is not our friend, only people can be friends. Government is a tool (and an effective one), which needs to be wielded properly with care. This is a central philosophy of the Enlightenment against absolute monarchies. Our government was founded as a social compact at the consent of the governed, with checks and balances. I wrote “Government is staffed by fallible man and prone to the same abuses… Read more »
